New art in Victoria Park—Meet 'Rover'
On World Art Day, a crowd gathered to celebrate the addition of Rover, by artist Jeff Zischke, as monument in our city. Standing 18 feet tall, the familiar companion is transformed into a bold geometric landmark that reads from across the park and anchors the space with both scale and personality. The faceted planes and simplified form draw from Cubist geometry, while the oversized scale and saturated yellow place it firmly in the language of Pop Art, reminiscent of a Keith Haring drawing translated into three dimensions.
There's also a strong connection to mid-century modern design-clean angles, structural clarity, and an optimistic visual confidence that feels distinctly Palm Springs. The result is playful but monumental, turning an everyday companion into an iconic gathering point.
The Palm Springs Public Arts Commission celebrated public art installations as part of the ArtScape in the Parks program. These works, created by nationally recognized artists and installed in neighborhood parks throughout the City, reflect Palm Springs’ continued commitment to creativity, culture, and vibrant public spaces.
ArtScape in the Parks brings together four distinct works that, taken together, reflect individuality, community, movement, and imagination—each piece offering a different way to experience public space. One of them is in Victoria Park!
Together, these four works transform the parks into spaces of discovery—where diversity takes shape, familiar forms become community icons, movement is remembered, and imagination fills in what abstraction leaves open.
